IFCR Bangladesh Launch

When we reached Munnar, Kerala in May 2013 to be part of South Asia Rotary Cricket Tournament organised by Rotary International, little we did realise that we would hit two birds in one shot for IFCR. Not only did we have a successful launch of the hosts RI 3201,Cochin as an additional chapter of IFCR India during the course of the event in the presence of RI officials of South Asia, but we also sowed the seeds of IFCR into another cricket crazy country from the South Asia region, Bangladesh.

Bangladesh, which was one of the invitees for the tournament, was led by their ever energetic District Governor Dr. Ishtiaque Zaman and they were greatly inspired by the fantastic show (as organisers) put up by the dedicated Rotarians of Cochin and enthralled at being Cricket Loving Rotarians.

When, during the launch function of IFCR 3201, Kittu, in his articulate way, narrated the essence and joy of IFCR it only needed few rounds of further talks by us with DG Ishtiaque and his team to evince their keen interest in IFCR. The enthusiastic DG Ishtiaque straightaway started the planning of launch of IFCR 3280, Bangladesh and he was keen that it must occur before his term ends on 30th June. Rest is history !!!

When, on the invitation of RI 3280, KIttu,Vipul and I landed at Dhaka on 13th Jun 2013, it was the District Awards Day function on that evening. DG Ishtiaque, despite his busy schedule, welcomed us at the function, with his 1000 watt smile and and ensured that his hospitable team of Rotarians would make us feel completely at home straightaway.

The next day, Friday June 14, 2013, was a red letter day in the annals of IFCR 3280, Bangladesh - their induction into the best recreational fellowship of Rotary, the International Fellowship Cricket Loving Rotarians (IFCR). We were invited for a Friday morning breakfast meeting of RC Uttara at the cosy Uttara Club in Dhaka (where we were lodged) and we could feel the buzz of the IFCR launch throughout the meeting. Incidentally, it should be mentioned here that this was of the last meetings which the local Rotarians are attending as part of district 3280, since Bangladesh will be split into two districts, 3281 and 3282, effective from July 1, 2013.
The launching programme in the evening (when DG Dr.Isthiaque was installed as IFCR Chair, Bangladesh along with two co-ordinators Rtn.Tipo for district 3281 and Rtn.Ali Choudhary for district 3282) was a gala affair with a fair sprinkling of Rotary families and lady Rotarians making it a colourful fellowship. The charter certificates and pins were presented to IFCR Bangladesh chair Dr.Ishtiaque and his team of office bearers and later pleasantaries were exchanged between IFCR India and IFCR Bangladesh officials. A lively local band kept the gathering in a spirited and swinging mood and it was a fitting finale while ushering in another group of warm and passionate cricket loving Rotarians in to IFCR World.

DG Dr.Ishtiaque and his team of enthusiastic Rotarians which included Rtn.Salauddin Ahmed (President of Uttara Club which won quite a few district awards) Rtn.Tipo, Rtn.Ali Choudhary, Rtn.Shoaib, Rtn. Khondokar Shahidul Hasan, Rtn.Khairul Alam and several others, have left no stone unturned to make the IFCR Bangladesh launch a truly memorable one and we left Dhaka making another 50 odd dear friends in IFCR and bringing them that much closer to the rest of the fraternity in the IFCR world.

Dear IFCR World Board Members and Friends,

Greetings from IFCR World and India!!

Hope you are all doing good.

I am pleased to share few  pictures ( Collage) of the recently concluded IFCR World Mini Festival in Dhaka Bangladesh ( held from 14th to 17th Nov 2022) where 10 teams ( totaling around 150 Cricket Loving Rotarians)  have participated, which included teams from Srilanka , Nepal , India and hosts Bangladesh. It was great to be part of this event ( a maiden venture by IFCR Bangladesh) after being personally associated with the launch of this country chapter in Jun 2013 with PDG Ishtiaque Zaman as its Charter country head.

His Excellency Sri.Ghanshyam Bhandari , the Nepal ambassador to Bangladesh along with District Governor RID 3281 Rtn.MA Wahab were present on the gala inaugural evening, which was well attended by the participants and invitees with their families. The IFCR country heads of India ( Neel) Srilanka ( Chaturka) and Pramod( Nepal) apart from hosts Bangladesh ( Salauddin) and Festival Chair Tipo along with me did the honors on this colorful occasion.

It was heartening to note the participation of full fledged teams from Nepal ( for the first time in an international event ) Srilanka, Bangladesh ( 2 teams) and  of course 6 teams from India( some of whom had the opportunity to participate in an international IFCR event for the first time) . My hearty congratulations to the respective country heads (and particularly motivator Pramod from Nepal)  for their active participation and making this maiden attempt to host an international event by IFCR Bangladesh, a success.

Meanwhile during my stay at Dhaka , I had the privilege to be invited as a special guest at one of the Rotary meetings hosted by  Rotary Club of Uttara ( RID 3181) where I was felicitated by the Club President Rtn.Karim apart from their celebrity member Rtn.Tipu Munshi ( who happens to be the Honorable Minister of Commerce Govt of Bangladesh) in the presence of their District Governor Rtn.MA Wahab.

It was memorable to be part of another enjoyable IFCR International event at Dhaka Bangladesh, which I am sure would give a great push to IFCR and motivate more members / families to be part of this great fellowship group of Rotary International.

I am also pleased to share with you all that our application for allotment of an IFCR booth in House of Friendship during Melbourne Convention ( 27th to 31st May 2023) has since been submitted acknowledged/accepted by RI Fellowship Committee.

I request Derrick and team from IFCR Australia to start preparing for hosting the booth on all the days of the convention with necessary promotional material , posters, exhibits etc and also request other country heads to co-ordinate with IFCR Australia and share any material which they would like to exhibit on behalf of their country chapter. Also those members who are likely to be at the Melbourne'23 RI convention may kindly volunteer to support IFCR Australia in manning / running the booth successfully. I shall share, from time to time, further inputs received from RI Exhibits committee with IFCR Australia.

Thanking you all and with best wishes,

Yours in service of IFCR/Rotary,

KRP Sarathy,

Chairman, IFCR World.
